Our Gym
Black Diamond Martial Arts is a gym in Boerne, TX that is focused on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Owned by martial arts fanatics Casey and Andrea Johnson, Black Diamond is a family-owned and operated establishment. Our team comprises lifelong martial arts trainees, former professional and amateur fighters, and multiple BJJ black belts.

Casey Johnson
Owner | MMA Coach
Casey has trained in several different forms of Martial Arts over the last 25 years, including boxing in HS, Okinawan Karate, MMA, and BJJ. He was one of the first members of the Grindhouse Fight Team with GH fighter Devin Cowan.
Casey has trained with many different current professional fighters, has been a part of fight camps, attended seminars, and competed in smokers and BJJ tournaments. He has taught MMA classes for the last 5 years. He also offers one on one training sessions.
Andrea Johnson
Owner| Youth BJJ
Andrea is a Boerne native who has competed in multiple sports, trained Crossfit and weightlifting, and competed in a fitness competition. In recent years, she has been focused on training jiu-jitsu, mma, boxing, and kickboxing.
Andrea is passionate about instilling her love for fitness and nutrition with others and empowering women to prioritize self-care, strength, and confidence. She has her NASM CPT and Nutrition Certification.
Brendan O’Reilly
BJJ Coach
Brendan is a professional MMA fighter who competed in the UFC and was a contender on The Ultimate Fighter: Canada vs. Australia . He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).
Originally from Australia, Brendan now resides in Boerne, Texas, where he heads the Grind House BJJ program and serves as the Advanced MMA coach.
Preston Garcia
BJJ Coach
Preston has been training BJJ for 20+ years. He earned his black belt from Crosley Gracie Jiu Jitsu in 2021. He has also trained Muay Thai for years.
Preston was an Law Enforcement Officer for 17 years in California: SWAT, gang detective, narcotics/undercover, and defensive tactics instructor.
Originally from Napa Valley, Preston now resides in Boerne. He is married with 3 kids and a bunch of grand kids.
Carlos Garza
BJJ Coach
Carlos is the newest addition to our BJJ family. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Professor, with 3 years at the black belt level under Rodrigo Pinhiero, and a registered affiliate with the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). His journey in BJJ began in early 2011, and over the years he has dedicated himself to mastering the art and honing my skills on the mats.
Tim Bird
BJJ Coach
Tim has been doing BJJ for 8+ years and is a brown belt. As a kid, he grew up training Tae Kwon Do, Western Boxing, and other martial arts.
He is the father of two kids, one of which he teaches in the kids’ BJJ class. His wife, Hanna, is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
When not training or teaching, Tim enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. He also devotes time to volunteering for various non-profits helping with disaster aid.
Jason Conine
BJJ Coach
San Antonio native Jason Conine was a high school wrestling standout and multi-time state champ in freestyle, folkstyle, and Greco.
He wrestled for Arizona State and trained with the U.S. Olympic freestyle team under Sergei Beloglazov and Terry Brands.
A BJJ second-degree black belt, Jason has coached athletes at all levels and draws from parkour to teach smart, injury-aware movement.
Christian Rodriguez
Kid’s MMA Coach
Christian began wrestling in his early teens and competed folkstyle throughout high school. In college, his roommate convinced him to try MMA, and he’s been fully committed ever since.
Now an amateur MMA fighter, Christian also trains BJJ and has spent the last several years as a CrossFit Coach at a local gym
Barret Adams
BJJ Coach
Barret is one of our BJJ coaches who heads up the Veteran’s and Community BJJ class on Sunday afternoons.
Having started training in 2015, he is currently a brown belt. Barret is a Boerne native who graduated in 2007.
By day, he is a flight paramedic with a decade of EMS experience. Barret’s certifications include NRP and CCP-C.
Paul Spicer
BJJ Coach
Paul has been training BJJ for 7+ years and is a purple belt under Brendan O’Reilly. He’s passionate about the art form and the physical and mental benefits it brings.
He believes BJJ to be a level of therapy that can help people learn more about themselves and strengthen their resolve.
Jose Quinones
Youth Wrestling Coach
Jose grew up wrestling up north in MT and has wrestled his entire life. As an accomplished wrestler, he competed in folkstyle and freestyle. After graduating college, he taught for 4 years at a high school in SoCal.
Jose also trains BJJ and MMA. He enjoys weightlifting, hanging out with his wife, and going on adventures.
